Synopsis

Venue: Stag Theatre

For sheer transcendent beauty, Bizet's The Pearl Fishers has few rivals in the entire repertoire. The opera's famed duet for tenor and baritone is a soaring melody that has turned countless opera newcomers into ecstatic fans.

Bizet transports us to Sri Lanka. The life-long friendship of Nadir and Zurga has survived their precarious existence diving for pearls. But their friendship is threatened by their obsession with the same woman, the beautiful priestess Leila, who battles to suppress her feelings of love in order to uphold her sacred oath. Can their friendship survive? Only if one of them is willing to sacrifice all!

With beautiful melodies and rousing choruses this promises to be a magical night at the opera. If you have never seen a live opera performance before, this is the ideal place to start. The production is fully staged and sung in English with a full orchestra, young professional soloists and the Kentish Opera chorus.
